2021 conference

 

I was offered the opportunity by a VCU professor to work on a solo project remotely for MERC based in Richmond, Virginia.

This project consisted of a series of designs for their online 2021 conference, including promotional work such as poster designs, website banner designs, and an extensive informational program for the conference guests.  

This project took 6 months to complete, beginning in
April 2021 and ending in October 2021.




 

After I was given the brief of 
a post-pandemic virtual learning
community, I created a design that 
resembles a circut board. This highlights the new technology age, while also symbolizing the paths and connections being created in this new virtual era of learning
and communicating.

Program Flip -Through Video

Due to the pandemic, the 2021 conference was to be held online, meaning I had to create a program that wouldn't be printed but viewed as an online document. This meant I was able to create hyperlinks and interactive elements that wouldn't have been possible as a printed document. Seen on the Table of Contents page, I created an icon resembling a list of content that is located on the top left corner of each page. By placing it next to the title Table of Contents, the viewer is able to recognize that icon as a way to navigate back to the contents page. 

Hyperlinks and quick navigation are other examples of interactive elements. Any text that is underlined represents a clickable object, taking you to an outside link (such as a website) or to another page in the program. For example, each line of text in the Conference Schedule or Session Threads pages will lead you directly to the corresponding page, making for easy and quick navigation through the content. This was my way of replacing the hands-on effect of being able to flip through a printed booklet and see multiple pages at a time. A virtual document may take longer to understand, as only one spread is seen at a time, however, these interactive elements allow the viewer to have more control and a more realistic experience.
